Janet Ryan - Principal
Janet Ryan is seasoned public relations professional with more than 25 years experience in business to business to business and consumer public relations. She opened her public relations consulting business in 2001.
Prior to opening her company, Ryan worked for some of the country’s top agencies, including Weber Shandwick, Rogers & Cowan Public Relations (Los Angeles) and St. Louis-based Glennon Company. She has direct experience in media relations, community outreach, securing interviews for clients, creative execution of special events and trade shows. An accomplished writer, her work has been published in numerous trade publications, newspapers and other media outlets.
Ryan has a passion for working with organizations that have a genuine interest in building trusting relationships with the communities and industries they serve. She works to completely and thoroughly understand each client’s needs and objectives in order to help them deal effectively with opportunities to make a positive impact on the community, industry and employees they serve. She works collaboratively with each client to define their own unique goals, design a tailored plan and then nurture the process to the ultimate realization of their vision.
Ryan specializes in assisting technical clients translate complex ideas into information readily understood by the average reader or viewer. Ryan focuses on news writing, media relations, speechwriting, trade shows, media training, developing continuing education courses for the construction industry, writing architectural project profiles, and supporting lobbying efforts further client’s interests. She is a frequent guest author for industry trade publications.
Local clients include the JCC St. Louis, where the firm recently handled the opening of the new Michael Staenberg Family Center. Building on that relationship, the firm now handles public relations for both the JCC and the Holocaust Museum. Ryan recently won both a national and international award for her work with ArtSpace, a collaboration of more than St. Louis artists working out of unused retail space at Crestwood Plaza. The agency garnered national media attention for the project, including CBS This Morning and a feature in Parade Magazine. Ryan was awarded a MAXI award, the highest award given in the shopping center industry.
Recent event-related work includes the Big Pink Blast, the Heart to Heart Fair, and the David C. Pratt Cancer Center anniversary event for St. John’s Mercy Hospital. The company has also managed event marketing for Pedal the Cause, Go! Louis and the Gateway Cup.
Other current and past clients include Go! St. Louis, Senoret Chemical (consumer pest control), THF Realty, Solutia, Monsanto, Little Tikes Commercial playgrounds, TRUE Fitness, Highland Pharmaceuticals and Convenience Products. Other clients include MarineMax (yacht and pleasure boat retailer), Viracon, Montag Window and Doors, Consolidated Construction, and Glazing Consultants Inc. She has also worked on legislative issues for many clients, including hurricane mitigation legislation and local project such as Prop M, for the Metrolink.
Ryan holds a BA in Modern American History from the University of Kansas, with a minor in English. Her educational background includes study at the London School of Economics. She is the mother of three daughters. Ryan and her husband enjoy attending the kid’s sporting events, golf, travel and spending time at the family cabin in rural Missouri.
Carolyn Schinsky - Director of Social Media
Carolyn Schinsky joined Ryan Public Relations in 2003, bringing more than 20 years of marketing experience to her current position as Director of Social Media.
Schinsky oversees all social media functions for Ryan Public Relations clients and runs its most significant programs. She has extensive experience in brand building via on line marketing technologies, including Facebook, You Tube, Linked In, Twitter and other social networking platforms. She has successfully launched campaigns for a number of consumer brands, including Sweeney’s Mole Control products, Convenience Products’ Touch ‘n Foam, Seal-Krete and Touch ‘n Seal brands and Terro Ant Control and Fruit Fly products. Schinsky has managed one of the most successful campaigns in social media’s “short” history, the “I Hate Moles Contest” which is now in its fourth year. She has extensive experience working with bloggers in a variety of industries, including financial services, building and construction, home pest control and has significant expertise in running contests and other promotions with “mommy” bloggers. She has completed a number of webinars and other course work in social media.
Formerly, Schinsky held the position of Director of Direct Marketing and Client Relations with Aon Innovative Solutions. Her responsibilities included participating in high-level new business and client review presentations, integrating Customer Relation Management processes to increase client profitability and customer loyalty, coordinating direct mail programs with telemarketing efforts, developing effective scripting, and ensuring compliance with changing state regulations. Her clients included Sony, Hewlett Packard, Aon Home Warranty, Polaris and AAA Auto Club. Carolyn’s career experience also includes six years as Sales and Marketing Manager with AAA Auto Club, and four years as a Sales Representative with National System, Inc.
Schinsky holds a B.S. in Business with an emphasis in Marketing/Advertising from Indiana University. She enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle with a passion for running, hiking, swimming and tennis. She, her husband and three children reside in Des Peres.
Laura Wells, Senior Writer
Laura Wells is a senior writer with more than 20 years copywriting experience in marketing-communications and public relations. Laura’s skills are wide-ranging, including writing case studies, articles and news releases; editing catalogs; managing website content; writing and producing radio and television commercials; and, creating brand development, advertising campaigns, and collateral materials.
Laura is naturally inquisitive and involves herself in her writing. By understanding the client, the industry, and the target audience, Laura can ensure that the message needed is the message delivered.
Past experience includes Account Manager and Writer with Aon Innovative Solutions, where she managed development of marketing materials for Aon Home Warranty Services and their clients Coldwell Banker, Century 21, and ERA. Laura’s resume includes writing business-to-business and direct-to-consumer pieces for clients in the financial, medical, chemical, insurance, architectural, retail, construction, foam sealant, and home pest control industries.
Laura has a Bachelor’s in Advertising from the College of Communications at the University of Illinois.
Lindsay Sihilling, Senior Account Executive
Lindsay Sihilling is a St. Louis-based writer. She writes across a wide discipline of content, specializing in arts and culture, architecture and media relations. She has been with Ryan PR since 2010.
Her portfolio and publications include: feature length articles, blog content, interviews, press releases, reviews, business proposals, and web copy- just to name a few. She has been published in various trade publications such as Metal Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and most recently, HEC-TV Magazine.
Lindsay studied English Literature and Spanish at the University of Missouri- Columbia, and graduated with departmental honors. On the side, she teaches creative writing and American literature to middle school and high school students. For fun, she hikes, cooks and writes poetry and nonfiction.
